Michael Kors joins Gucci, Armani, vows to no longer use animal fur
Michael Kors said the brand will be able to create a 'luxe aesthetic' using non-animal fur thanks to technological advancements.
Global luxury fashion brand Michael Kors announced that it will no longer use animal fur in its products.
John D. Idol, the Company’s Chairman and CEO in the company's press release said, “I am pleased to announce our company’s commitment to no longer use animal fur in our Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo collections."
He added, “This decision marks a new chapter as our company continues to evolve its use of innovative materials.”
Production will be phased out by the end of December 2018.
Designer Michael Kors said that on account of technological advances in fabrications, the brand will be able to create a 'luxe aesthetic' using non-animal fur.
He said, “We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.”
The brand had a revenue of more than $4.7 billion in 2016.
PETA US Senior Vice President Dan Mathews expressed his delight, saying, "This is a wonderful holiday gift for fur-bearing animals. We're pleased that the company is evolving away from using fur and look forward to working with it on other issues in the future."
Michael Kors is the newest addition to the list including Gucci, Armani, Yoox Net-a-Porter, Ralph Lauren and Stella McCartney who also made a similar declaration.
