Khalbile Kozhikode expo kick-starts
Event at St Joseph's HSS sheds light into city's history.
KOZHIKODE: Khalbile Kozhikode (Kozhikode of the Heart), a seven-day exhibition with storytelling sessions and various programmes shedding light on the city's past is on in connection with the 225th-anniversary celebrations of St Joseph's HSS. The storytelling of the city of truth started with eminent historian MGS Narayanan, the former chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research, narrating tales from the past to the eager audience.
Citing a story on its honesty, he said once an Arab merchant visited all the ports of the Western Coast where he left with a vessel with gold to a person, asking him to keep it till he returns. He told them it was a special pickle which he loved very much. But on his return, he received the vessel with gold only from Kozhikode. "This Arab merchant was the first one who spread the grace of honesty of our citizens across the ports," he said.
Kochi Metro chief A.P.M. Muhammed Haneesh also shared many incidents on the honesty and love of people in the city during his long career as a top bureaucrat. Dr Suresh Kumar, head of Institute of Palliative Medicine, will lead the storytelling session of Friday. "Prominent hoteliers and foodies will lead the session on tastes of the city on Saturday," Anoop Gangadharan, the curator, told DC. Claimed to be the first school in the state, the institution was started by Jesuit missionaries in 1793. The World Alumni Meet of the school namely 'Sanjo-225' will begin on January 27.
