International Yoga Day: Yoga day threads
Shivani Nirula is elated about her apparel design being selected for International Yoga Day.
Shivani Nirula is elated about her apparel design being selected by the Ministry of Ayush to be worn, among others, on the International Yoga Day function led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chandigarh on June 21.
Shivani, 25, who is an alumni of Nift Delhi, says, “The project was given to Nift and they approached me to work on it. I had a series of meetings with the ministry and came up with a design that I thought would be the most appropriate. The fabric used was 100 per cent cotton and the design has the International Yoga Day logo.”
Talking about her journey, Shivani says, “When I started applying to art schools, I realised that design was very interesting since I liked the idea of creating a product with a purpose. I got into Nift Delhi and selected the Knitwear Design programme. It’s not a very mainstream choice — knitwear design is about very hi-tech fabric, you can get into lingerie, sportswear etc. It’s more like a fabric of the future.”
