Twitterati slam Government advisory to disabled people during national anthem

New Delhi: New guidelines making it mandatory to stand for national anthems in cinema halls created quite a stir on the social media after several incidents of people being assaulted for not standing for the anthem, including one where a disabled person was also attacked.

The Supreme Court’s decision was met with queries about what disabled people are supposed to do and the government recently came out with guidelines stating that disabled people should be still and alert when national anthem is played and that those with mild intellectual disability should be “trained to respect”.

The report sparked outrage as many questioned if we even have basic disabled-friendly infrastructure before going on to announce such diktats. This outcry poured on to Twitter as users shared their take on the guidelines.

 

 

 

 

The advisory has been subject to sharp criticism as it was issued after the Supreme Court exempted the physically challenged from standing up when the national anthem is played.
