Movie mania goes online

The film industry is looking to release movies online a few weeks after the theatrical release of the movies. With online video streaming service like Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hotstar changing the way we now watch movies, a huge question arises as to what youngster will do now. The trend of watching not just movies but also popular TV shows online has become a huge rage among the young and old generation alike. In a conversation with city based people we find out why they prefer online video streaming services.

This youngster feels that the time spent waiting for a movie to release in theatre can be better utilised in doing something productive. City- based Self employed Rajeev Rishikesh Pillai says, “This is really great to know as now I don’t have to leave the comfort of my house and also catch up on the latest released movie. The benefit of pausing, replaying etc is not there in a theatre. Online streaming simply makes everything better and I don’t mind waiting for legal online video streaming. Kabali, Bahuballi is one of my favourite movies of the recent time. So when I am in the mood for it I am assured that I will be able to see them online.”
Although this youngsters watches movies in theatre, she prefers online too. Senior analyst Sahana Swamy says, “I prefer watching non commercial movies and TV shows online as I know that they will be available always and I will be able to watch them at my own time. Shows like 13 reasons why, Black Mirror, Fuller house are some that I love watching online. And when in the mood for something nostalgic Hush, Andaaz Apna Apna is something that I always find online. I feel that online movies have a lot of pro such as being available at all times, can be seen in the comfort of one’s own house, less expensive etc.”

Watching a favourite movie again and again is what attracts a lot of youngsters to online movie streaming portals. City-based Shiraz Khan says, “Releasing of movies on online video streaming portals I think is a very good idea. One of the benefits of this online portal is the ease of access that Netflix and other portals provide. Having unlimited access to view the movies online is what appealed to me.”

This city based Food and beverage professional is all for online streaming of movies. Kunal Bhatt says, “Being in the food and beverage industry, I find it hard to take time off to watch movies as we work even on major holidays and weekends. So the only way to catch new movies or TV shows is to watch it online. Few shows like the Master of None, Narcos, Bojack Horseman, Maz Jobraniand Russell Peters – Almost Famous are a few shows that really drew my attention to Netflix and others.  Therefore I feel that online streaming services make it convenient for us to watch movies in the comfort of our homes or had held devices. It’s all about flexibility and convenience.
