Ghazals to jazz up Butt Road beach
Kozhikode's favourite hangout place to host music nite
Kozhikode: Ghazal singer Talat Aziz on Sunday evening set the tone for a 5-day ghazal nite, marking the District Tourism Promotion Council’s efforts to revive Butt Road Beach, once the second-most preferred hangout after the main beach in Kozhikode. Kozhikode, famous for ghazal lovers, witnessed an impressive turnout on Butt Road Beach in the evening to enjoy the soulful rendition of ghazal. The five-nite ghazal is in association with Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi and with financial support from A Pradeep Kumar’s MLA fund.
Lined up for the rest of the days are Umbayee and Gayathri, Chandan Das, Jithesh Sundaram and Abraditha Banerjee. Owing to a lack of maintenance, the Butt Road Beach had gradually ebbed. But attempts by many committed citizens have helped restore the past glory and give it a new lease of life. We will stage more such cultural events. This is just the beginning. We plan to rent out the stage on Butt Road Beach free for talented people to perform. Plenty of fun and music is in store for Kozhikode folks during weekends”, said Mr Pradeep Kumar.
