Video: 65-year-old rag-picker from Delhi feeds 400 stray dogs every day
Pratima Devi earns just Rs. 150 a day and despite her meager income, she takes care of these dogs.
You might have lost your faith in humanity but this world is still filled with good people if you look around. There are always some people who inspire us and restore our faith in humanity.
This story is about a 65-year-old Pratima Devi, a rag-picker from Delhi who feeds 400 stray dogs everyday.
She has won heart of millions of people after a video went viral. Now referred as the ‘dog lady of New Delhi’ she has dedicated her life for the wellbeing of stray dogs.
"I feel happy to live with them. When I was with my husband, I wasn’t happy. I used to work all day and run the house. My husband didn’t work. My son calls me all the time and tells me that he will take me to the village with him. But I don’t listen to him, I want to do good for the dogs.” Pratima Devi told barcroft.tv.
She earns just Rs. 150 a day and despite her meager income, she takes care of these dogs, despite barely being able to feed herself. She considers them her own kids and feel responsible for them.
Vivek, 18, helps her in her work and takes care of them passionately. They keep them clean and even these dogs are vaccinated.
“In the morning we get up at 6am and feed the dogs milk. At around 12pm we give them food with milk and at around 11pm we give them dinner,” said Vivek.
“I don’t know whether there will be anyone after me taking care of them. The way I feed them, take care of them, after me who will take care of them, no one can take that place. If I am not with the dogs at night, they won’t sleep without me. They won’t eat anything without me. Taking care of dogs is my religion,” shares Prathima Devi.
