On a musical journey
He currently has no plans of releasing an album and wants to focus only on his singles.
Having given the Telugu film industry several hit songs including Ye rojaithe choosano ninnu from the movie Gulabi, music composer Sashi Preetam is now turning his attention towards creating a platform for independent Telugu music. Calling this project, ‘M Files’, and the first season of it ‘Straight from the Heart’; Sashi plans to release a new single every fortnight.
Talking about this ambitious project, he says, “Initially I planned to release songs on a weekly basis, but I felt it would be too strenuous. While it is easy to do a cover of an already existing song, coming up with a own composition every week and then creating a music video for the same, along with other logistical issues forced into releasing them every 14 days.”
Though there is no hard and fast rule that the release must take place every fortnightly, he feels, “It will help us maintain discipline from the word go.”
With his first single out already — a rock version of his hit song, coincidentally also his first song as a composer, Ye rojaithe choosano ninnu — Sashi feels the reason for selecting this song was simple. “It has been my signature track for the last two decades now and I felt it was a befitting way to kickstart this project.”
He plans to release his original compositions initially and then release the remixed version of his existing compositions. Divulging more details, he tells, “We are ready with almost 25 songs. Since we had initially planned a weekly release, we have a lot of content, which will take care of quite a lot of time.”
He currently has no plans of releasing an album and wants to focus only on his singles. “However, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility completely,” he informs and says that he will also be coming up with concerts to promote his music.
Through these songs, Sashi wishes to create a new flavour of songs, which are truly independent in composition, genre and away from the usual songs doled out catering to situations from a movie. “Today’s youngsters are exposed to all kinds of genres and I plan to cater to them as well.” While most of the songs will be in Telugu, a few will also be in Hindi. He will be composing his music in various genres including rock and EDM.
Sashi is using this project as a platform to create opportunities for others. “I wish to encourage the tremendous potential of our youngsters and launch at least one new singer every month,” he says.
