21 killed, 40 injured after bus falls into gorge in Jammu and Kashmir

A bus enroute from Uttar Pradesh to Shiv Khori shrine, Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, fell into a gorge which killed nearly 21 pilgrims and left almost 40 others injured, on National Highway (NH)-144A at Tungi Morh in Kaliu Dhar area of Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, most of the passengers of the bus were being treated at hospitals in Akhnoor and Chowki Choura, while some have been referred to Government Medical College Hospital at Jammu.

The NH-144 A highway was in poor shape due to the road widening work on various stretches.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives in the accident, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, wrote on X, “The bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu is heart-rending. I condole the loss of lives and pray to the almighty to give the bereaved families the strength to bear the irreparable loss. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.’’

“The administration is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families and is also extending medical facilities to those who have been injured,” he added.
