Hyderabad: Three active militia members of South Bastar Division, CPI (Maoist) Party surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Malkangiri, Odisha.

Deva Madvi (18), Adma Madkami (24) and Muka Sodi (25), all natives of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh surrendered before police.

The police said the main reason for surrendering was increased police operations on both sides of the border and successes in interior areas and subsequent continuous fear of police action also contributed to their surrender.

The police said establishment of Company Operating Bases (COBs) in their transit route and villages have also played a crucial role in their surrender. The Maoists stated that a few Maoist cadres and militia are remaining and they are also waiting for an opportunity to surrender.

These militia members have also been aspiring for surrender for a long time after becoming disillusioned with the future of Maoist party’s obsolete ideology in this area and their anti-national, anti-tribal actions including killing of locals branding them as police informants.

But they were not allowed to leave the party by its senior leaders and were forcefully made to perform crucial tasks. They got disillusioned with the party leaders after realizing that they are doing nothing for the development and are only interested in their own interests.

They got disappointed with the behaviour of senior Maoist leaders on regional lines between Telugu and other cadres. They have disclosed that remaining few local and active Maoist cadres are also willing to surrender and join the mainstream of the society because of the torturous behavior of Chhattisgarh and Andhra cadres but they are not being allowed to surrender by the senior Maoist leaders of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) who are threatening them of killing them and their family members.

“We appeal to them to leave the obsolete and outdated ways of Maoist party, come to the mainstream and become a part of the on-going peaceful developmental process of this area,” the police said.
