Berhampore: West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Choudhury on Friday brushed aside rumours of getting sidelined by his party for losing his Lok Sabha seat, Berhampore in Murshidabad, after 25 years.

Mr Choudhury claimed, "It is a rumour that the Congress high command ignored and sidelined me after my defeat in the polls. Our party president Mullikarjun Kharge has telephoned and invited me to join a crucial working committee meeting on Saturday in New Delhi. I will attend the meeting as a Congress working committee member."

He also blamed the Trinamul Congress for spreading the rumour. According to the former Congress MP, he became a victim of two communal forces this time.

Mr Choudhury pointed out, "I have no personal grudge against anyone. After my defeat, TMC goons tortured Congress workers for voting me and working for me actively. It is an act of revenge politics after the massive win of TMC. I have no objection to Didi becoming the Prime Minister and Khokababu getting the post of the chief minister! They can even put me in jail also."
