All India Kannada Convention in Mandya
Bengaluru:A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday decided to hold 87th All India Kannada Convention, a Kannada literary event, in Mandya on December 20 to 22 while the name of the Chairmanperson for the convention will be announced after selection.
Earlier, it was decided to hold the three-day All India Kannada Convention in June but was put off over model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting to decide on the date for the event was attended by president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Dr Mahesh Joshi, secretary of department of Kannada and Culture Ajay Nagbhushan, Mandya district incharge and Minister for Agriculture Chaluvarayaswamy, CM’s secretaries Govindaraju and Nasir Ahmed among others were present.
Mandya had earlier hosted 48th All India Kannada Convention in 1974 then Jayadevi Tai Ligade was the chairperson of the convention and then in 1994 under the chairmanship of Dr Chaduranga.
After the meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the dates for the convention and exuded confidence that the convention will be held on a grandeur. He said that steps will be initiated to draw more people to attend the event in Mandya both within the country and also from abroad.
