VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam president Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday offered B-Forms to the party contestants for assembly and Lok Sabha segments, at Undavalli in Guntur district. Naidu administered an oath to them at his residence while handing over the forms to them.
The TD chief also announced a change of contestants in five assembly segments. He handed over B-Form to K Raghu Rama Krishna Raju for the Undi assembly segment replacing Manthena Rama Raju.
Giddi Eeswari is fielded from Paderu, Bandaru Satyanarayan from Madugula, Kurugondla Ramakrishna from Venkatagiri and MS Raju from Madakasira. This raised protests in the respective assembly segments.
The Telugu Desam is fielding its own candidates in 144 of the total 175 assembly and 17 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats as part of the alliance pact with the Jana Sen and BJP.
Naidu offered B-Forms to a majority of these contestants. He administered the oath to them by saying that the contestants will, in future, abide by the party’s ideals, ideology and decisions and serve the party with commitment.
Naidu also made the contestants swear that they would work hard for the welfare of the society irrespective of caste, religion and other factors and safeguard the interests of the state and the country. He also asked them to take an oath that they would strive hard to realise the ideals of party founder NT Rama Rao and protect the Telugu self-respect.
Later, addressing the contestants, he said the selection of the party candidates was done by keeping in mind the interests of the people and the party cadre. He called for coordination among the TD, JS and BJP contestants and leaders and also for ‘transfer of voters’ to the alliance partners.
“I have taken some leaders of the YSR Congress into the TD. I made sure I took only those who were having a good track record.
Noting that the party candidates have a campaign time of only 20 days, he asked them to fight with a strong will.
Naidu criticised chief minister Jagan Reddy by saying, “When CBI confirmed that he earned `43,000 crore illegally when his father was in power, he claims he was implicated in false cases, instead of proving that he was innocent.”
