AP CS Releases Agriculture, Horticulture Almanacs on Ugadi
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh chief secretary (CS) Dr. K.S. Jawahar Reddy released on Krodhi Nama Ugadi innovative agriculture and horticulture panchangams (almanacs) prepared by the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University and Dr. YSR Horticulture University.
The panchangams released on Tuesday are in the zodiac format and recommend various methods and technologies, including use of drones, for better agricultural output in the coming year.
The agricultural almanac shows main crops in the state as rice, maize, sorghum, sunflower, garlic, millets, oilseed urad dal, moong dal, cotton, sugarcane and timber. It covers topics related to crops, related fields and soil testing and agriculture.
The horticulture panchangam mentions 17 types of fruit orchards, nine types of garden crops, 30 types of vegetables, seven types of spices, 23 types of medicinal and aromatic plants, and 13 types of flowers that can be grown based on climatic conditions in the districts.
The almanacs include additional information like fertilisers and pesticides combination tables in horticultural crops, soil testing systems, biological fertilisers and sustainable agriculture.
Dr Jawahar Reddy said the agricultural and horticultural almanacs will be very useful for farmers, including women farmers of the state. He wished for good yields and a happy and peaceful life.
Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University vice chancellor Dr. R. Sarada Jayalakshmi, Dr. YSR Horticulture University vice chancellor Dr. T. Janaki Ram, extension directors Dr. K.S. Naik and Dr. E. Karuna Sri, registrar Dr. B. Srinivasulu, chief scientist Dr. B. Mukunda Rao, chief agricultural information officer Dr. J. Sharada, and senior scientist Dr. Y. Venkata Ramulu were among those present.
