Assam CM fears northeast insurgent may try to re-enter Bangladesh, appeals to PM to rope in new govt in Dhaka

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi should rope in the new government in Dhaka and ensure that insurgent groups of northeast are not allowed to re-enter Bangladesh.

Recalling the role played by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in dismantling terrorist camps in Bangladesh he told reporters, “The current developments in Bangladesh are worrisome. Sheikh Hasina's leadership was instrumental in eradicating northeast insurgent camps from her country.” He feared that with the fall of Hasina's government, militants might once again exploit the situation, posing a renewed threat to regional stability.
Amid the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, Mr Sarma while raising concern over the illegal infiltration from the border, Mr Sarma said, “ I hope central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will rope in new government in Dhaka and ensure that northeast insurgents are not allowed to re-enter Bangladesh.”
He was of view that if unrest continues in Bangladesh some people may try to crossover to India so it is necessary that border security is strengthened.
Reflecting on the gravity of the situation, Mr Sarma said, "In these uncertain times, as we vigilantly monitor our borders with Bangladesh, my thoughts often turn to the future of Assam. I pray for the strength and endurance to navigate the present with courage, hoping that our efforts today will lay the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. We must have the resolve to protect our religion and culture."
“In these uncertain times, as we guard our borders with Bangladesh, my mind often turns to the Assam of the future, 2041 when he claims Hindu will be reduced into a minority in Assam. I pray for strength and patience to sail through the present, with hope that our efforts today will lay the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. May we find the courage to protect our religion and culture", said Mr Sarma.
