New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday apprehended Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) Inspector Naveen Dhankar while accepting a bribe of Rs. 2.50 lakh from a complainant in Rajkot.

The CBI registered a case on July 3, 2024 against the Inspector on allegations that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 2.50 lakh from the complainant, who is the authorised person of a private firm. It was also alleged that the demand was made to the complainant and proprietor of the firm saying that they were doing wrong business and were not actually transporting goods.

The accused, allegedly, informed the complainant that if they want to continue to do business they will have to give illegal gratification or else their GST number will be cancelled. The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.2.50 lakh from the complainant.

Searches are being conducted at the premises of the accused at Rajkot, the CBI said.
