Raipur: The annual meeting of the Unified Command, held under the chairmanship of chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai here on Friday, laid emphasis on interstate coordination and infrastructure development in the Leftwing extremism-hit areas in the state to combat Naxalism.

The meeting convened to take stock of the security situation in Leftwing extremism-affected areas in Chhattisgarh, particularly Bastar, called for improving coordination with neighbouring states, particularly Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra, to deal with the menace of Maoism.

The interstate coordination includes joint operations in border areas, surveillance of connecting routes by security forces, and sharing of information.

Chairing the meeting, Mr Sai expressed satisfaction that Naxal activities in Chhattisgarh are declining fast and attributed this success to the effective joint operations conducted by the Central security forces, and Chhattisgarh police.

Mr Sai said that the state government has adopted a twin-strategy of intensifying counterinsurgency operations and undertaking development works to tackle Maoist menace in the state.

The ‘Niyad Nellaner Yojana’, a new scheme launched by the state government to ensure speedy development of infrastructure in Leftwing extremism-affected areas, has helped the government and the administration win the trust of the local people, Mr Sai said.

He directed the officials to prioritise development projects in Naxal-affected areas and focus on completing high-quality road construction, bridges, and other government projects on stipulated time.

The meeting focussed on enhancing police intelligence network in Naxal-affected regions and conducting anti-Naxal campaigns with the support and trust of the local villagers.

The meeting discussed the issues faced by security personnel in Naxal-affected areas in the state.

The chief minister instructed the officials to ensure the availability of essential facilities and resources at the security camps.

He also emphasised that local villagers should not face any inconvenience during the anti-Naxal operations.
