CISF constable, who slapped Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport, ‘held’

Chandigarh: The police allegedly arrested CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur for slapping Bollywood film actress and BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the actress was about to board a flight to New Delhi from Chandigarh airport to reach the national capital for attending the NDA Parliamentary party meeting.

The constable, who appeared to be upset with Ranaut over her stance on the farmers' protests, has been suspended and an investigation has been launched. The CISF, tasked with providing security at airports, had also ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.

In a video statement titled “Shocking rise in terror and violence in Punjab,” posted on X after her arrival in Delhi, the actress assured her followers that she was safe and unharmed. Recalling the incident, she explained the CISF constable approached her and, without provocation, struck her in the face and hurled verbal insults.

Ranaut questioned the constable's actions, to which the constable allegedly responded by expressing support for farmer protests. Earlier in the day, some farmer outfits on Friday threw their weight behind the CISF woman constable who allegedly slapped the actress, saying the entire sequence leading to the incident needs to be properly investigated.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha were among the prominent outfits which said they stand in support of the woman constable.
