Prosecution in Jisha case to begin on January 13

Ameerul's relatives, mother and sister of the victim are also witnesses in the case.

Kochi: The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court on Saturday adjourned the examination of the witnesses in Perumbavoor law student's murder case (Jisha case) to January 13.

The Court had earlier framed charges against Ameerul Islam in the Perumbavoor law student's rape and murder case. With the High Court recently dismissing all the pleas seeking CBI probe into the case, the trial in the sensational case is set to complete within six months.

If things go by plan, the trial is s set to conclude early February. Ameerul's relatives, mother and sister of the victim are also witnesses in the case. Court had appointed Deputy Commandant of BSF K. Prasad as the translator for Ameerul the key accused. The prosecution team lead by Adv N.K. Unnikrishnan slapped section 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and 376 A (punishment for causing death or resulting in persistent vegetative state of victim), among other charges.

Other charges are IPC Section 449 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death), 342(wrongful confinement), 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) against Ameerul.

23-year-old Ameerul hailing from Assam's Nagaon district was arrested on on June 16. He had evaded arrest for nearly 50 days. He was finally taken into custody from Tamil Nadu.

According to police, Ameerul left Perumbavoor soon after committing the crime. The victim was murdered on April 28, 2016.
