Hyderabad: A planned robbery was pulled off in SR Nagar on Saturday late night wherein a 70-year-old woman was attacked by unknown persons, who fled with ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh and Rs 2 lakh cash.

The perpetrators entered the house after breaking the lock of a grilled door and then knocked on the main door. The lady’s daughter and son-in-law had gone abroad and were coming back on Sunday early morning. Assuming that it was them, she opened the door and the assailants attacked her and decamped with the booty, sprinkling chilli powder to prevent sniffing by police dogs.

“Assuming that it is her daughter and son-in-law, the lady, Annanthamma, opened the door and they pushed her away and roughed her up. Then they  walked up to the bedroom and broke open the lock of the cupboard and fled with cash and ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh. After a while, the lady gained consciousness and informed the neighbours,” said a source from SR Nagar.

However, officials of SR Nagar are claiming that it is a burglary and nobody was hurt. “The lady had kept the door open for her daughter and son-in-law to come in and that’s when the robbers came in ,” said D. Srinivas, detective sub-inspector of SR Nagar.

Based on a complaint, a case was booked under Sections 457 (house-breaking by night) and 380 (theft) of the IPC. The police said that there are no CCTVs in the vicinity.
