New Year drugs haul: Two Nigerians nabbed in Hyderabad
The suspects are students in different colleges in the city.
Hyderabad: A few hours to go for the New Year celebrations to kick start in the city, the Rachakonda police busted a drugs racket and nabbed two Nigerians, including a girl.
The suspects are students in different colleges in the city and stay at Jawahar Nagar. Drugs worth Rs 16.7 lakh were seized from them. The arrested were identified as Agubgbue Chidiebube Chukwu-ma, 19 and Sunday Priscillia Oluchi Uju-nwa, 22. One of their accomplices, Benjamin, is absconding. He is out on bail after being arre-sted by the city police for drug peddling.
Agubgbue came to Hyderabad in 2015 on a student visa and studies at the University Science PG College in Secunderabad, while Priscillia is purusing BPharm course in RBVRR College.
Based on credible information, the police conducted a decoy operation and intercepted a car on Sunday morning and found drugs inside. They purchased one gram of cocaine for Rs 20,000 and were planning to sell it for around Rs 50,000.
“They procured the drugs a few days ago and were planning to sell it during the New Year eve, targeting parties and events. Their motive was to make easy money,” said Mr Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda commissioner.
The police recovered 16 grams of cocaine, 23 grams of heroin, 40 grams of alprazolam, 15 grams of amphetamine, 1 GHP steroid bottle of 7 ml and 1 kg ganja, all worth around '16.7 lakh. The police also seized a car, five mobile phones, two laptops and a passport. The arrested were sent to remand.
