Nellore: Atmakur police has nabbed a four-member interstate gang belonging to Bihar involved in 14 cases in different parts of Andhra Pradesh and recovered 530 grams of gold worth Rs 16 lakh from them. The accused have been identified as Bantisha, 32, of Kadugulla village of Badari mandal, Jaganadhsha, 28, of Govindapur village in Masheshkut mandal, Devendrakumar Guptha, 24, of Sondlyha village, Gokedi mandal and Rakesh Kumar, 30, of Madhurapur village of Narayanapur mandal in Bihar.
The accused were arrested at Nellorepalem centre in Atmakur mandal on Monday afternoon. According to Nellore SP Vishal Gunni, the modus operandi of the accused is to target women alone at home and steal their gold ornaments under the pretext of giving a new glitter to the jewellery. The offenders stay in lodges in cities and towns and go to villages by bikes. They choose the houses where only women are present and convince them to give the gold jewellery after giving a new shine to their silver articles.
The goons put the gold jewellery in a mug of water and tell the women to take out the gold only after 20 minutes. In the process of the conversation they replace the gold ornaments with fake jewellery and leave the place. The women realise that they were taken for a ride only after the accused are far away from the habitation.
The SP said the gang had committed six offences in Nellore district, two in Prakasam, four in Guntur and two in Visakhapatnam during last two years. The SP appreciated Atmakur CI Sk. Khajavali, SI’s Purnachandra Rao and Sk. Abdul Razak and their team for apprehending the criminal gang.
