Bengaluru: Rs 4.12 cr cash found in gunny bags, 3 arrested
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Afzal, 23, Abdul Nasir, 44, and Shamshuddin, 39. All three hailed from Kozhikode in Kerala.
BENGALURU: Three men who were allegedly smuggling cash in gunny bags filled with onions and potatoes were arrested by the CCB police. Unaccounted cash over Rs 4.12 crore was seized from the accused, of which, around Rs 3 crores was in new Rs 2,000 denomination notes. The accused have been identified as Mohammed Afzal, 23, Abdul Nasir, 44, and Shamshuddin, 39. All three hailed from Kozhikode in Kerala.
According to police, they received information that suspicious activities were going on at a house in Anand Nagar Extension in Kodigehalli from the last few days. Following the information, the police raided the house on Monday night and found that the three persons were involved in smuggling cash to Kerala in a mini goods lorry (KL-57-N-1498).
“They were found in possession of cash Rs 4,12,78,300 for which they did not have any valid documents. They confessed that they hid the cash between onions and potatoes filled in gunny bags and smuggled it to Kerala. In the cash seized, 75 per cent of money was in new Rs 2,000 currency. The mini goods lorry, 35 gunny bags of onion, 10 bags of potato and a Toyota Fortuner car used in the offence was also seized in the operation,” the police said.
The police said that the arrested persons were charging commission for smuggling the money and investigations were on to know the persons to whom the money belonged.
