Chennai: Lovelorn man arrested for harassing married woman
The accused wanted Kanchana to divorce her husband.
Chennai: Madipakkam police has arrested a 28-year-old man for torturing a married woman, insisting on her divorcing her husband working in New Zealand. According to police sources, Ms Kanchana (name changed) 25, is a software engineer and was on a field trip to New Zealand, where she stayed with her husband’s friend Rakesh. The woman had stayed in the apartment to cut the stay cost and after her stay for two months she returned to Chennai.
But to her shock Rakesh approached Kanchana expressing his love and desire to marry her. Dejected over the proposal, Kanchana informed her husband, who is a chef in a restaurant in New Zealand. The couple initially sought the local police help, but as the police counselling went in vain, a case under woman harassment Act, section 4 was slapped on Rakesh. He was remanded to Puzhal prison. During interrogation Rakesh said that the woman was also in love with him but had changed her mind. He also told police that he had resigned his lucrative job for Kanchana.
