Assam: Minor son who was sold returns to kill wife-beating alcoholic father

Guwahati: A 14-year-old who was sold as domestic help returned home and killed his alcoholic father for beating his mother in Biswanath district of Assam.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the incident happened on Sunday night when the boy attacked his intoxicated father with a machete. The father died on the spot.

“The minor was upset with his father beating his mother. In a fit of rage, he hit his father’s neck with the ‘dao’, killing him on the spot,” Pradeep Hazarika, in-charge of Helem police station, was quoted as saying on Tuesday.

The boy, who was caught by the police, supposedly accepted the crime and said that he was angry with his father for bickering with his mother.

He was sold as a domestic help at the age of 8 to a family in Arunachal Pradesh. The minor returned home after numerous tries last week. He also has a younger sibling.

Locals were reported to have witnessed several quarrels between the boy and his father.
