Bengaluru: Man kills wife, mother-in-law
According to police, the accused is HIV positive and the couple had frequent fights over the issue.
Bengaluru: A 27-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife and mother-in-law in Doddaballapur Town police station limits on the city outskirts on Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as Meenakshamma, 43, and her daughter Chandrakala, 24. They were residents of Therina Beedi in Yelethatte of Doddabalapura. The police are on the lookout for the accused, identified as Chandrashekhar, a weaver.
According to the police, Chandrakala was in love with Chandrashekhar and they had reportedly eloped and got married at Dharamasthala four months ago.
Since, Chandrashekhar's family was against the marriage, the couple lived separately near Chandrakala's parents' place. Chandrakala's house was only a kilometer away from her parents' house, and she was visiting them often. Her father, Narayanappa, runs a pakoda shop.
"On Saturday night, Chandrakala went to her mother's house and Chandrashekhar had been to Narayanappa's shop to get pakodas. Around 9.15 pm, Narayanappa returned home to find his wife and daughter dead. The neighbours, who learnt about the incident, alerted the police. Preliminary probe suggested that the accused had murdered the duo by strangulating them. However, we are awaiting for the post-mortem report to know the exact cause of death," the police said.
"It is learnt that the suspect, Chandrashekhar, is HIV positive and the couple had frequent fights over the issue. Chandrshekhar has gone absconding after the incident. Meanwhile, Narayanappa has alleged that his son-in-law was harassing his daughter to bring dowry and that could be the reason for the murder. We have launched a manhunt to nab him and the reason for the murder will be known once he is caught," police said. Doddaballapura Town police have registered a murder and dowry death case.
