Seven injured in political clashes at Panunda
CPM, BJP tension at Panunda in Kannur.
KANNUR: Clashes and bomb attacks erupted between CPM and BJP-RSS workers at Panunda under Kathirur police station limits on Wednesday night leaving four CPM men and three BJP-RSS cadres injured. The attack was a sequel to the earlier clashes in the area. The police recovered an unexploded bomb from the spot. The CPM workers-- Kailasathil Sreedev, 29, Shamil Babu, 21, Nilamballiveettil Shamjith, 23, and Kandamkulamveettil Rejinesh, 25, were admitted to the Cooperative Hospital, Thalassery. The BJP-RSS workers-- Karayilakandiveettil Prasanth, 42, Valiyaparambath Manjunath, 18, and Supriya Nivas Adarsh, 20, were taken to Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital, Thalassery.
Bombs were hurled at the CPM workers while they were sitting in front of the CPM office by a group of BJP-RSS workers who came on five bikes, it is said. The CPM men retaliated while the BJP-RSS workers were going back after the attack, the police said. The police registered three cases based on the complaints filed by BJP-RSS workers Manjunath, 18, son of Vijayan, and Adarsh, 22, son of Sunil, and CPM worker Shamil Babu. A police team headed by Thalassery ASP Chaithra Teresa John and Kathirur principal sub-inspector C. Shaju visited the spot.
