Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a seven year old girl was raped and then murdered three weeks later, to prevent her from identifying the accused. The incident took place in a village in Allahabad district when the minor girl was raped on June 5 by a 15-year-old boy.

The girl’s family made several attempts to lodge a complaint with the police but the latter refused to do so initially because the father of the accused was a close friend of the village head.

Finally, the police lodged a complaint and arrested the accused boy. The family of the accused, on Tuesday night, barged into the house of the victim and dragged her out of the house where she was stabbed to death.

The girl died on the spot and when the police arrived, they took away the body and buried it on Wednesday. The cops justified their act by saying that handing over the body to the family would have led to a law and order problem.

The matter came to light on Wednesday when the victim’s relatives approached a local news channel. The police then arrested the father of the accused and the village head.

“We had to resort to a lathi-charge because the family and others were planning to take the body and place it at an intersection and start an agitation,” said a senior officer Joginder Kumar.
