Bhubaneswar: A poverty-stricken woman allegedly committed suicide after poisoning her two children at Godaguda village in Malkangiri district on Saturday night. The woman identified as Sita, reportedly mixed poison with food and gave it to her four-year-old son and five-year-old daughter and consumed the same.
However, both the children were saved after neighbours, on hearing their cries, rushed to the spot and admitted the trio to the hospital. However, Sita died on the way to the hospital while the two children were battling for life at the hospital. As per reports, Sita was struggling to meet both ends after the death of her husband, two months back. She was also staying separately along with her two children after snapping ties with in-laws. It is suspected that Sita resorted to such extremity due to abject poverty and poor financial condition.
