Providing data in job portals are not safe
Since the portals do not carry out a thorough background verification of their clients, it is easy for the frauds to dupe them.
Hyderabad: If you have registered yourself on a prominent online job portal, watch out for job scamsters who access your credentials and contact details by paying these portals. There is also a possibility of these conmen calling you with fake job offers and asking for money.
The city cyber crime police says that in many recent cases the scammers accessed the database containing contact details and CVs of victims from the biggest online job portals in the country.
They either call or send an email offering a job to the victim. A fake telephonic interview is conducted and they make the victim convinced that he or she has been selected for the job.
Once the victims believe the lie, they ask for money for various bogus charges.
This is the most common modus operandi in all job fraud cases.
Cyberabad cyber crime inspector Md. Riyazuddin says the scammers access the database of major job portals in two ways.
“The job portals usually sell their data to genuine job consultancies in the country, which is part of their business. The scammers take advantage of the facility and approach the portals after creating a fake job consultancy to access the data,” he said.
Since the portals do not carry out a thorough background verification of their clients, it is easy for the frauds to dupe them.
“The second way is that the scammers pay the employees of an established job consultancy and get the data secretly. In some cases, ex-employees of job consultancies have also sold data about portal clients to scammers,” said the inspector.
City police records show that job fraud is one of the most frequent offences reported in Cybercrime wings, in which dozens of youngsters get cheated every month.
