Chennai: Neighbour slams dog to death with cricket bat
On Sunday morning, Manikandan took his pet dog, a five-month-old dachshund pup, for a walk and was returning home.
Chennai: A 27-year-old man approached the Royapettah police with a complaint against his neighbour, who he claimed killed his dog by hitting it with a cricket bat on Sunday. The complainant, A. Manikandan is a resident of PM Dargah Street off Lloyd’s road and works as a washing machine service mechanic.
On Sunday morning, Manikandan took his pet dog, a five-month-old dachshund pup, for a walk and was returning home. His dog had barked at a young girl in his neighbourhood. Police sources said that the girl got scared and informed her parents who picked up an argument with Manikandan. The quarrel escalated and in the melee, the girl’s father, Arumugam picked up a cricket bat and smashed it across the dog’s head, which was tied to Manikandan’s motorbike.
“The dog was bleeding from its nose and ears. My brother and I took the dog and rushed to the Government Veterinary college in Vepery,” Manikandan said in his complaint. However, the doctors’ attempts to save the dog went futile and the dog succumbed to injuries.
Following this, Manikandan filed a complaint with the Royapettah police station demanding action against his neighbour Arumugam. Police have initiated investigations based on the complaint, police sources said. A CCTV recording of the man hitting the pup is also available with the cops.
