Warangal: Warangal police arrested a 26-year-old woman named P. Prathyusha Reddy on Monday for duping several people by posing as a police constable.

Police said she had created fake ID cards and uniform and a Facebook account and misled people into believing that she was a police constable. Police said the woman hailed from Kesamudram in Mahbubabad district and was an M.Com graduate.

Police said she used to tell people online through her Facebook account that she was in financial crisis and used to collect money from them.

In this way she got connected to one Sagar who lives in Dubai. She used to chat with him and one day asked him to send money saying that her father had met with an accident and needed money urgently. In this way she extracted Rs 70,000 from him.

However, Sagar grew suspicious and asked for her details. She said that she was a constable at Subedari police station. Sagar asked his brother to go to the Subedari police station and enquire about her. On finding out that his brother had been deceived he filed a complaint. The Subedari police arrested Prathyusha Reddy on Monday.

Inspector A. Srinivas said the woman might have duped several people but so far no one has filed a complaint. She managed to get a fake police uniform through a friend in Khammam.

The police seized fake ID cards, phones, police uniforms and a two-wheeler from her.
