GHMC officials went to demolish illegal construction, thrash by builder's goons
The goons started beating the officials with sticks once they were inside the building premises.
Hyderabad: Kukatpally town planning officials who went to demolish an illegal construction in Gopal Nagar were attacked with sticks allegedly by the builder’s goons.
On June 14, illegal construction of a six-storey building was demolished by GHMC officials. Just a month after that, the builders resumed the construction activity again. This was brought to the notice of the GHMC officials who went to check on Tuesday afternoon.
Two Town Planning officials along with seven labourers went to the site. The goons started beating the officials with sticks once they were inside the building premises.
One official Mr. Kumar jumped off from the second floor and fell on the grass next to the railway station. Another official and labourer were hit with sticks from second floor until they exited the building.
While Mr. Kumar sprained his leg, another official Mr. Mani Manikyam got injuries on his leg, hand and back.
Mr Mani Manikyam said, “We were instructed to go and check the site for illegal construction activity taking place again. When we went inside, many goons attacked us with sticks. The incident happened at around 12:40 pm on Thursday. We had already demolished the building. Despite that, the construction activity had restarted. We tried to stop the construction when we were surrounded by goons, who began beating us.”
The building which was under construction for seven months was demolished on June14. Due to the delay in stopping illegal encroachments, GHMC Commissioner intervened and suspended town planning supervisor, transferred assistant city planners and issued memos to the two assistant city planners for not acting on time. According to sources, the henchmen allegedly belonged to the ruling party leaders. Police has registered cases under IPC 332, 188, 504.
Meanwhile, Revenue officials who took up eviction drive at Gachibowli faced the ire of the local people. At Survey number 37/2 of Keshava Nagar, Gachi-bowli, when the eviction of houses was being done by the police, the mob atta-cked the policemen and they had to call in reinforcementsto bring the situation under control. Based on the complaint of the revenue inspector a case was registered and seven accused were arrested.
