Bengaluru: Man attacks wife, hangs self
Police said that the couple got married about 10 years ago and had two children.
Bengaluru: A man, who had allegedly attacked his wife with a machete on Wednesday, reportedly committed suicide in Yelahanka police station limits on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Nagaraj, 32, a tractor driver by profession. His wife, Devi, who works as a house keeping staff in a private hospital, is undergoing treatment. The family lived near Kogilu Cross.
Police said that the couple got married about 10 years ago and had two children. Nagaraj had started suspecting her fidelity for the last few months and this had led to frequent fights between them.
He had told her not to go for work, but she had not paid heed. This had strained their relationship and depressed by this, Devi had deserted Nagaraj and moved to her mother’s house in Srinivasanagar along with her children.
“Around 2 pm on Wednesday, Devi was walking towards a shop near the house to recharge her mobile phone. Nagaraj followed her on a bike and attacked her with a machete and sped away. Devi sustained grave head injuries and collapsed, while passersby rushed her to a hospital. The police, who launched a probe, verified CCTV footage and found that it was her husband who had attacked her. Though the police searched for him on Wednesday night, but could not find him,” the police said.
On Thursday morning, a youth found a body hanging from a tree at an isolated place in Srinivasanagar and alerted the police. On reaching the spot, the police identified the man as Nagaraj.
“It is suspected that Nagaraj had decided to kill his wife and then end his life as well,” the Yalahanka police, who have registered a case, added.
