Hyderabad: Cops rescue 14 children
The police also registered seven cases on people who engaged children for labour work.
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police rescued 14 children who were picking rags, begging and child labour in the last 30 days. In the first case, after the police launched an exclusive WhatsApp number to receive complaints, a 12-year-old girl who was employed at a dump yard in Kukatpally, where her father was also working, was rescued. The police also registered seven cases on people who engaged children for labour work.
Earlier in August, the Cyberabad police started the exclusive WhatsApp number for complaints on child labour and abandoned children. The teams rescued 14 children from various places and rehabilitated them.
The first complaint received was about the 12-year-old girl working at a dump yard in Kaitlapur in Moosapet under Kukatpally police station limits.
“She was made to pick out cardboard and glass material from the garbage dump. The premises had a foul smell and it was hazardous.”
“A case has also been registered against the dump yard supervisor for engaging a child as a labourer,” said Cyberabad police, who rescued and produced the girl before the RangaReddy district Child Welfare Committee. She was then admitted to a home at Nimboliadda for rehabilitation.
Cyberabad DCP (Women Protection Cell) C. Anasuya said 14 children were rescued from rag picking, various places of work and from begging during the Operation Smile programme.
“A girl who went missing from Rajendranagar was traced and handed over to her parents. The other rescued children will be admitted to schools in coordination with the Child Welfare Committee,” said the DCP of the Women Protection Cell.
