Hyderabad: Man runs over sleeping dog while talking over phone
Golconda police acquired CCTV footage which showed that the driver was not following traffic rules and had crushed the dog.
Hyderabad: The Golconda police on Friday seized a car which ran over a dog that was sleeping on the road on August 27. The driver was talking on the phone when he ran over the dog at OU Colony, Shaikpet, and fled with the vehicle without stopping. Animal welfare volunteers of Humane Society International-India, who were in the vicinity, rushed to the spot and found the carcass had been thrown in a dustbin.
By the time the volunteers filed a complaint, the government veterinary hospital was closed. The volunteers had to preserve the carcass overnight. The post-mortem was done on August 28, and the report is awaited.
Golconda police acquired CCTV footage which showed that the driver was not following traffic rules and had crushed the dog. An FIR was registered against the driver, who is absconding, under Sections 428 and 279 of the IPC and Section 184 of Motor Vehicle Act. Ms Apoorva Katpatal, cruelty response manager HSI-India, said, “We are appalled to see the apathy of citizens who instead of trying to get help for the animal dumped it in a dustbin. We believe an increase in reporting of animal cruelty will not only help animals get justice but also deter people from being cruel to them.”
