Cyber criminals create fake Whatsapp account of Rajanna Sircilla collector

Karimnagar: Cyber criminals are “officials” in Rajanna Sircilla district -- and they are busy trying to extract money from their “subordinates.”

For a second time, cyber criminals were seen creating a fake account in the name of district collector Anurag Jayanti with his profile picture and trying to “trap” his subordinates. This came to light here on Thursday.

Two months back, a gang of cyber criminals opened a fake Whatsapp account in the name of the collector and demanded money from the officials. The gang created fake accounts with ID 234 812 456 2622 and sent messages to some officials, demanding money.

A week back, one such incident occurred targeting DSP Rahul Hegde. By creating a fake instagram account in his name, the gang sent messages to his friends and relatives, urging them to send him a certain amount through Google pay.

Having learnt about the impersonation, the collector immediately alerted all officials and released a statement appealing to the people not to fall prey to such rackets.
