Bengaluru: Biker arrested for threatening woman with rape
The complainant, a resident of Bannerghatta, was returning home from her relative's house and had stopped her car as the signal was red.
Bengaluru: A day after a woman alleged that a two-wheeler rider abused her for not jumping a traffic signal and later threatened her with rape, the Tilak Nagar police on Sunday arrested the accused biker.
Chandrashekhar (42), a businessman and a resident of Katriguppe, was arrested after the woman, a photographer with a private company, filed a police complaint against him. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the Tilak Nagar traffic junction. The complainant, a resident of Bannerghatta, was returning home from her relative’s house and had stopped her car as the signal was red.
Chandrashekar, who was behind the woman on a two-wheeler, started honking repeatedly, asking her to move the car. As she did not respond, he abused her and also followed her car to a distance. In her complaint, the woman said that Chandrashekar threatened her saying, “Jump the signal and move your car or else I will rape you.”
She had clicked his photographs and shared them with the police while filing the complaint, based on which the police arrested Chandrashekar.
During the interrogation, Chandrashekar told the police that the woman abused him instead of moving her car, and that was when he threatened her with rape.
The police produced Chandrashekar before court, which handed him over to judicial custody.
Another police officer said that on Sunday, soon after the accused was arrested, the woman approached the police and asked them if she could withdraw the complaint. The police told her that she had to approach the court to do so.
