Assam: 4-year-old girl beheaded to 'appease God' to find lost phone
Locals suspect it to be a human sacrifice, as a puja was performed by a tantrik at one of the four accused men's house.
Guwahati: Four people in Assam’s Charaideo district allegedly sacrificed a four-year-old girl to appease God in order to trace a lost mobile phone that belonged to one of the accused men’s daughter.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, the beheaded body of the girl and her chopped off hands were found in Ratanpur village of the district on Tuesday morning. The girl, identified as Sunu Godba, was reported missing on October 24.
The Assam police have arrested two men, identified as Hanuman Bhumij and Arif Uddin Ali, while two others – alleged black magic practitioner named Gabbar Singh and Ali’s brother Jalal Uddin – are absconding.
Locals suspect the killing of the girl was a human sacrifice, as Bhumij performed a puja at his house to “retrieve” the lost phone.
Police confirmed that a puja was performed at Bhumij’s house by tantrik Singh, but they are investigating the allegations of human sacrifice.
“We learnt that a sorcerer had come to the village to retrieve the lost mobile phone. But by the time we received a complaint from the girl’s family about her abduction, he had fled. We are looking for him and the other person, who is Ali’s brother. We will nab them soon,” Charaideo superintendent of police Mohneesh Mishra said.
“I can’t say but it looks like that because the puja was performed at his house,” he said.
