Chennai: Three robberies reported in city
The Tiruvottiyur police registered a case. Police are investigating based on the recovered CCTV footages from the shop.
Chennai: Three incidents of burglary were reported in the city on Tuesday. In the first case, Bhakaram Chowdri (45), owner of a popular jewellery shop opposite to the Tiruvottiyur police station, was robbed on Tuesday night at around 9.30 pm by a man wearing cap visited his shop in the pretext of purchasing jewels.
A few minutes later, he threw the chilli powder, on Bhakaram’s face and escaped with six sovereign gold jewels kept on the table. Bhakaram raised an alarm and the neighbours tried to nab the suspect but in vain.
The Tiruvottiyur police registered a case. Police are investigating based on the recovered CCTV footages from the shop.
In another incident, Kamatchi (47), owner of a wholesale rice shop at Thiruvottiyur market, was robbed. On Tuesday night he closed the shop and went home. However, when he returned on Wednesday morning he was shocked to see the locks on the doors open. He rushed inside only to find '25,000 stolen from the cash box.
He lodged a complaint at the Thiruvottiyur police station and further investigations are on. In the third incident, K. Selvam (40), a resident of Wireless station road in Porur runs a bakery in the same locality, was robbed.
“On Tuesday afternoon, Selvam’s wife Vasanthi had gone out of the house to give lunch for Selvam. At around 3 pm, their son Rajesh returned home from school and found the house open and things scattered. Sensing, the house was burgled, Rajesh alerted his parents. Selvam lodged a complaint at SRMC police station, 20 sovereigns of gold was decamped from his house. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
