Ooty: Erode youth held for killing woman in Kotagiri

Ooty: A youth from Erode district was arrested by police at Kotagiri near here for murdering a woman and attacking her child in the Rose Cottage area in Kotagiri on Saturday night.
Police sources said that primary investigation into the suspected murder of Logeshwari (25) gave clues that a person from the Erode area was involved in it. Further, investigations revealed that Gowrishankar (23), hailing from the Uthukuli area in Erode and working in a private herbal products promotion firm in the same district, had an extramarital affair with Logeshwari for quite some time, since her husband was away at Dubai.
While he was frequenting her house at Kotagiri, the two quarrelled on Saturday. An angry Gowrishankar slit her neck with a scissor. While Logeshwari died immediately, he also slit the neck of her three-and-half-year-old son Karthikeyan, who is now being treated in Coimbatore.
Gowrishankar, who took away some gold jewels worn by Logeshwari, fled the scene on Saturday night. He was finally nabbed in Erode on Tuesday evening, police added.

Police sources said that A. Dastagir (26), a local boy working as a caretaker at a tourist cottage in the St. Mary’s hills area, was engaged to his maternal uncle’s daughter S. Imrose (19), a Kallakuruchi girl, who was studying nursing in Chidambaram. Kasi Viswanathan alias Kasi (28), a Vadalur-based boy working in a medical shop in Chidambaram area, fell in love with Imrose and wanted to marry her.
Coming to know that Imrose - Dastagir wedding was slated in the second week of September 2011, Kasi thought that the only way to prevent this was either to persuade Dastagir to cancel the wedding or kill him. So, he came to Ooty on September 4 along with his friends Vimal, Prabu and Shivasakthi and stayed in the tourist cottage where Dastagir worked.
The next night, they spoke to Dastagir, but failed to convince him. Angered at this, Kasi and his friends murdered Dastagir and his friend Ayaz, who was also there in the cottage that night.
Police arrested them in September 2011 and filed a case in the court here. The district cum Mahila Court which heard the case, sentenced Kasi Viswanathan and Shivasakthi to double life terms. Vimal and Prabu, the other two accused in the case were minors when they committed the crime, are already lodged at a juvenile home.
