Bengaluru: Biker avoids pothole, but pillion rider run over

Bengaluru: A 28-year-old housekeeping staff died on the spot, while the rider escaped with minor injuries, when a water tanker rammed into their bike in Banasawadi on Tuesday night.
The deceased, Hema, was a resident of Hennur Cross and working as housekeeping staff at a private company. The accident happened while she was returning home from work, the police said.
Manjula, the rider, veered right to avoid a pothole and rammed into a water tanker. Hema was crushed by under its wheels while Manjula escaped with injuries. Passersby rushed Hema to hospital, where she was declared brought dead. She is survived by her husband, an auto driver, and their one-year-old son.
Banasawadi traffic police rushed to the spot, arrested the driver and seized the vehicle for further investigations. “We have booked the driver for causing accidental death due to rash and negligent driving and remanded him to judicial custody,” a police officer said.
