RTC driver runs over elderly couple
Hyderabad: A RTC bus ran over an elderly couple from Nirmal district who were in the city to meet their son, at Bowenpally crossroads on Sunday afternoon.
Tuniki Tulsidas, (65) and his wife Rajamani, (62), got down from Nirmal depot bus and were crossing the road towards the Bowenpally-Balanagar bus stop at about 2.45 pm when they were hit by a RTC bus of the Jeedimetla depot. The bus was proceeding to Secunderabad, Bowenpally police said.
The victims died on the spot. Passers-by chased the bus and tried to assault the driver, Margam Narahari, Bowenpally police said, but he escaped and surrendered before the police.
“Around 2.50 pm, I received a call from Bowenpally police asking me to rush to Gandhi hospital immediately. By the time I reached the hospital, the bodies of my parents were shifted to the mortuary,” their son Tuniki Rama Raju, said.
“My mother had called me in the morning before starting. They used to visit me once in two months. This time we had planned to go to our hometown Bagalkot, Nirmal, to celebrate Sankrantri,” said Raju, a senior executive in Indian Immunologicals Limited.
On a complaint lodged by Raju, Bowenpally police registered a case against the driver and seized the bus bearing number AP 29 Z 2608. The driver was subjected to a breathalyzer but was not drunk.
