Supreme Court stays bail in sextortion case
Supreme Court on Monday stayed the anticipatory bail given to sextortion case accused M. Satyanandam.
Vijayawada: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the anticipatory bail given to sextortion case accused M. Satyanandam, suspended APSPDCL DE. Satyanandam, who was working as DE in electricity department was booked for active involvement in the gang that sexually exploited women and resorted to extortion. He was fourth accused in the case registered at Machavaram on December 11, 2015 following a complaint given by a woman to the commissioner of police.
Satyanandam, who went into a hide out filed anticipatory bail petition in the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad on Dec. 14. On December 29, he was sanctioned conditional anticipatory bail. This came as a shock to the city police who failed to arrest him. Later, the state government filed a review petition with the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of bail to Satyanandam.
On Monday, the Supreme Court ordered stay against the bail enabling police to arrest Satyanandam, according to sources at the office of commissioner of police. Satyanandam is already in judicial custody after police arrested him in a separate case after getting anticipatory bail. He is likely to be arrested on a PT warrant soon.
