Inter-state fraud suspected in GRE entrance
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad cybercrime police investigating the case of malpractices in the conduct of the GRE (Graduate Record Examinations), are checking the allegation that inter-state operators were involved. The GRE organisers had alleged that multiple rings of organised gangs were involved in the, for which the police had booked one person on Wednesday.
Prima facie it was found that the suspect, identified as Gunashekar, had facilitated a student to cheat in the exam and he was assisted by people outside.
As Gunashekar went into hiding after the fraud came to light, police are checking his phone numbers, bank accounts and other details to see if he had helped more people to cheat during the exam.
The details of candidates who took his assistance to cheat and clear the entrance are also being verified.
The suspect took Rs 23,000 from a candidate, who was a part of a sting operation by the agency which conducts the test, to help him to cheat during the examination. Following the sting operation, the agency approached police and a case was filed.
