Bengaluru: Man held for duping camera shop owners
Police said Ashfaq Khan used to approach camera shops and befriend the owners by introducing himself as a photographer.
Bengaluru: A youth's camera stealing spree ended on Friday after he had duped several camera shop owners of their expensive cameras.
The High Grounds police arrested Ashfaq Khan (25), a resident of Pipeline in Vijayanagar, who rented expensive cameras from camera shops and sold them on OLX. The cops have recovered nine cameras and 14 lenses from him.
Police said Khan used to approach camera shops and befriend the owners by introducing himself as a photographer. Later, he would rent expensive cameras for 3-4 days saying he wanted it for a photo shoot.
Khan then used to put those rented cameras for sale on OLX. After selling them he would be not reachable on his mobile phone and later change his number, police said.
When the buyers used to ask for bill, the accused used to tell them he does not have the bill and was selling the cameras from his studio, as he wanted money for his sister's marriage.
The police took up the case after several complaints of cheating were filed against Khan with recent one being at the High Grounds police station. The accused had so far put up nine advertisements on OLX, police said. They are further investigating the case.
