The Tamil Nadu State government has been urged to go on an appeal against the acquittal of those accused of raping and brutally electrocuting a 12-year-old child.

Bengaluru: A 26-year-old Kannada TV actress has lodged a complaint of rape and cheating against a Hyderabad-based man who allegedly lured her with a promise of film roles.

The Amrutalli police said the Sangamesh Patil (39), a self-claimed film producer, also promised to marry the woman.

The woman used to work at a hospital in Bengaluru when come into contact with Sangamesh on the telephone in 2013. He told her he had seen her photos and that she had a future in the movies.

He allegedly lured her to Hyderabad on a ruse and laced her drink with drugs and raped her, according to the police. Later, he traveled with her to Goa and other places after blackmailing her with videos of them together.

Sangamesh Patil’s wife allegedly got to know of their relationship and lodged a police complaint against her.

The Amrutalli police said they would record a statement by the woman and then initiate action against Sangamesh.
