NCM may seek CBI probe into Medak police torture case
Hyderabad: Taking a serious note of the alleged torture by the Medak police which led to the death of one Mohammed Khadeer, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) is likely to seek a CBI inquiry
Syed Shahezadi, the NCM member, who recently visited Medak, has blamed police for not registering FIRs against cops reportedly responsible for harassing Khadeer which eventually led to his death.
“When I visited Medak there was no proper response from the Medak Superintendent of Police. The SP said there was no FIR and no case was registered against the police under the attempt to murder section. We have taken the issue seriously and decided to take further action as per the law,” Syed said told ‘Deccan Chronicle’.
After a preliminary inquiry, Syed found fault with the Medak police for assaulting Khadeer in a police station for four days. Syed said that the panel would summon the Medak SP to appear before the Commission in Delhi for a hearing. If he fails to respond, the Commission through the ministry of minorities would submit a report to the ministry of home affairs seeking a CBI inquiry into the case.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, Khadeer was picked up by the Medak town police from Hyderabad in connection with a chain-snatching case. He was reportedly harassed. Later, Khadeer was left at his residence after police realised that he was not related to the case. While undergoing treatment at Gandhi General Hospital Khadeer died.
