Hyderabad: The police arrested a cricket bookie and his men on Saturday for accepting bets from punters. The cops seized a laptop, eight cell phones, a tablet and Rs 10 lakh from the arrested men. The bookie, Mukesh Sharma alias Pappu, 49, was at his father-in-law’s house in Saidabad with Ritesh Singh, 39, a provision shop owner, and Mahesh Beeradhar, 30, a driver.
Mukesh is a habitual gambler engaged in cricket betting. He was earlier arrested thrice by the police. He, Ritesh Singh and Mahesh Beeradhar organises cricket betting involving huge amounts.
Police said he had a small room at his father-in-law’s house in BDR Towers at the Tirumala Hills Colony in Saidabad, where he stored equipment. Another man, Monu, who was the main organiser and used to collect money from Mukesh, is absconding. The arrested suspects and the seized articles were handed over to the SHO of Saidabad police station.
