Karnataka: Engineering student held for raping, blackmailing minor

Belagavi: An engineering student from Belagavi was arrested for allegedly raping a minor school girl for the last two years and sending a controversial compact disc to the school principal where she was studying.
Soon after the incident came to light, the 22-year-old student, Shivakumar Balekundri, was arrested by the police. They produced him at a local court and he was remanded to judicial custody.
Shivakumar had made friends with the girl who was staying with her family in the same apartment at Samadev Galli. When her parents came to know that he was harassing her they warned him.
But he continued to harass and threaten her. When the girl resisted he decided to blackmail her claiming he had video-recorded the rape incident. Later he sent the CD to the principal.
The girl's family was not aware of the blackmail tactics resorted by Shivakumar, until the school principal informed them. The parents and the school management then contacted the police help desk and got a case registered against Shivakumar.
